Earthquake Tremors Shake Delhi-NCR Twice in 24 Hours

Delhi-NCR experienced a second earthquake in less than 24 hours. Following tremors felt on Wednesday afternoon, the region was shaken again on Thursday morning. Both earthquakes originated in Sonipat, Haryana. Thursday&#8217;s earthquake measured 2.6 on the Richter scale, with mild tremors felt in parts of Delhi-NCR.

MT Vasudevan Nair Passes Away: Sad news has emerged from the entertainment world. Renowned director and writer, MT Vasudevan Nair, has passed away, leaving fans deeply shocked and in disbelief. He breathed his last on 25th December at the age of 91. Social media is flooded with tributes, with fans acknowledging his immense contribution to the industry and calling his passing a significant loss.



MT Vasudevan Nair, a prominent figure in Malayalam literature and cinema, had been unwell for some time. He suffered a heart attack on 15th December, which severely deteriorated his health and caused respiratory problems. He was admitted to a hospital in Kozhikode, where he passed away at 10 pm on 25th December. He was affectionately known as MT by his fans.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">MT Vasudevan Nair Suffers Heart Attack</h2>



Hospital sources confirmed MT&#8217;s death to PTI, stating that a heart attack last week had severely worsened his condition, despite extensive efforts to save him. MT directed seven films and penned the stories for approximately 54 films throughout his career. Following his demise, the Kerala government, according to the CMO, has declared an official mourning period on 26th and 27th December. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has instructed the postponement of all government programmes, including the cabinet meeting scheduled for 26th December, as a mark of respect.

Fatehpur: A DCM truck collided with an e-rickshaw carrying schoolchildren in Fatehpur district, Uttar Pradesh. The accident resulted in the death of a 7-year-old girl and the driver, with over five children sustaining injuries. The incident occurred in the Bindki police station area.



Locals immediately informed the police. Officers admitted the injured children to the hospital and took possession of both bodies for post-mortem examinations. The e-rickshaw was reportedly carrying children from Children&#8217;s Public School.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Outrage and Protests</h2>



The accident sparked widespread anger among locals and the victims&#8217; families. Grieving relatives expressed their distress, while residents questioned the administration and school management. Locals claimed that road accidents are frequent in the area, yet the administration remains unresponsive. They complained that children commuting to school in e-rickshaws are constantly at risk.

The Additional Superintendent of Police stated, “On the Bindki-Lalouli road, under Bindki police station limits, schoolchildren from CPS school were travelling in an e-rickshaw. Near Faridpur crossing, a DCM driver collided with the e-rickshaw, killing the e-rickshaw driver on the spot. Six children in the e-rickshaw were injured and taken to hospital. One girl died during treatment. The vehicle has been seized, and the driver is absconding. Further action is underway.”

Jammu Cash ₹3.04 Crore for CM's New Vehicle Fleet

Jammu Kashmir: A fleet of vehicles is being arranged for Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah (CM Omar Abdullah). Eight luxury SUVs will be purchased for his convenience during travel. Preparations for this purchase have begun at a time when, two months after the government&#8217;s formation, Jammu and Kashmir&#8217;s legislators have not received their salaries.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Approval Received from Transport Department</h2>



According to the Transport Department, ₹3.04 crore has been sanctioned for the purchase of eight Toyota Fortuner SUVs for the Chief Minister&#8217;s official use. Four of these will be based in Delhi, and two each in Jammu and Srinagar. The government order states that the funds should be used only to purchase the SUVs. Existing staff will manage the vehicles; no new posts for drivers will be created.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Letter to Speaker Regarding Delayed Salaries</h2>



Jammu and Kashmir&#8217;s legislators are awaiting their first salaries. They have written to the Speaker regarding this matter.
