<p>Regarding the injured admitted to the hospital, BJP leader Vasundhara Raje said that attendants, doctors, and nurses were all helping the people. She expressed her desire to thank all those who had come forward as benefactors to assist. She added that this was a humanitarian issue, and everyone was trying to manage it. She also prayed to God for the speedy recovery of the injured.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Updates on the Bhankrota Tanker Blast</h2>



<p>A tragic accident occurred on Friday morning near Bhankrota on Ajmer Road. A gas leak and subsequent fire, following a collision involving an LPG tanker taking a U-turn, shook Jaipur and the entire country. Thirteen people died in the accident, many of whom were burnt alive. Thirty-two people suffered severe burns, with several in critical condition. The injured are receiving treatment at the hospital.</p>

<p><strong>Weather Update:</strong> A severe cold wave is sweeping across several states in North India. The weather is now shifting towards rain. Delhi-NCR is under a blanket of dark clouds. Light rain was reported in some areas on Monday morning. Meanwhile, the IMD has issued alerts for rain in several states. </p>



<p>According to information received from the meteorological department, cloudy skies are expected in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and several districts of Haryana on Monday, 23 December. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Alert Issued for These States</h2>



<p>The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for Delhi-NCR and other states. They have predicted rain in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab over the next few days. The existing cold wave in these states is expected to intensify. The meteorological department has issued alerts for both rain and a cold wave in several states.</p>

<p>A horrific accident on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway on Friday has left a lasting impact on people&#8217;s minds. People are arriving from far and wide to visit the accident site. While some arrived to offer assistance after witnessing the horrifying scene, others were merely spectators, even taking selfies with the burning vehicles. Still others were seen collecting salvaged items from the charred remains.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Identifying Society&#8217;s Real Heroes</h2>



<p>DCP Amit Kumar stated that several individuals, disregarding their own safety, helped the injured after the gas tanker caught fire. Some attempted to extinguish the flames, while others rescued the injured from vehicles and transported them to hospitals. Many risked their lives to pull people from the burning vehicles.</p>



<p>However, many of these ‘real heroes’ remain unidentified. The police have formed a team to identify these societal heroes. They plan to honour them using CCTV footage, videos from the scene, social media posts, and footage from hospital cameras. The police aim to compile a list of these heroes and honour them within five days.</p>



<p>Ravi Meena, a resident of Bindayaka, said, “Our home is about 10 kilometres from here, but we rushed to the scene upon hearing the explosion. It was a deeply saddening event.” Champalal, who lives 5 kilometres from the accident site, added, “I have never witnessed such an accident before. I only hope nothing like this ever happens again.”</p>

<p>A young man sent his bike in the boot of a sleeper coach to Jaipur, but following the accident, the bike was reduced to ashes. The police stated that when the young man called to ask if his bike was safe, he was told, &#8220;Brother, everything here has been destroyed.&#8221;</p>



<p>Police officers at the scene suggested closing the DPS cut to alleviate accidents and traffic jams. Instead, they proposed creating a new temporary cut using vacant land belonging to NHAI near the cloverleaf, connecting to the ring road. This measure could help prevent future accidents. Large directional indicators are also needed to guide drivers to the new cut and ring road route.</p>


<p>People are traveling from near and far to witness the site of the devastating accident that took place on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway on Friday.</p>

<p>Hiteshi Borana, a former nursing student at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jodhpur, was critically injured in a road accident in Rajkot. Doctors declared her brain dead. Following this, Hiteshi&#8217;s family decided to donate her organs after bringing her to AIIMS Jodhpur.</p>



<p>At AIIMS Jodhpur, Hiteshi&#8217;s two kidneys and liver were donated. One kidney and the liver were transplanted into different patients in Jodhpur. Another kidney was sent to SMS Hospital, Jaipur, via a green corridor. No suitable recipients were found for the remaining organs. The AIIMS administration sent Hiteshi&#8217;s body home in a flower-decorated ambulance with full honours.</p>



<p>Hiteshi, 31, a Pal Road Rupnagar II resident, had completed her BSc and MSc in Nursing from AIIMS Jodhpur. About a year and a half ago, she secured a job as a nursing officer at AIIMS Rajkot. On 12 December, she sustained serious injuries in a road accident in Rajkot. After a thorough examination at AIIMS Jodhpur, she was declared brain-dead on 21 December.</p>



<p>Hiteshi&#8217;s father, retired principal Lakshmi Narayan Boraana, and mother, retired senior nursing officer Chandra Kala, decided to donate their daughter&#8217;s organs. Transplantation coordinators, including Kuldeep, Dashrath, Neha, and Ramesh, contacted the family regarding the organ donation.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Kidney to a Woman, Liver to a Man</h2>



<p>One of Hiteshi&#8217;s kidneys and her liver were transplanted into patients at AIIMS Jodhpur on Sunday. Both recipients are residents of Jodhpur. The kidney was transplanted into a 38-year-old woman whose kidneys had deteriorated due to high blood pressure.</p>



<p>The liver was transplanted into a 40-year-old man whose liver was damaged by hepatitis. The transplantation procedure was coordinated by Prof. A.S. Sandhu and transplant nodal officer Dr. Shivcharan Navaria.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">60 Kidney and 15 Liver Transplants</h2>



<p>AIIMS Jodhpur has performed 60 kidney transplants to date, with most kidneys donated by known individuals. In addition, 15 liver transplants have been performed, nine from family members and six from brain-dead donors.</p>

<p><strong>NPPA Revises Drug Prices:</strong> The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), the body responsible for fixing drug prices in India, has set retail prices for 65 new drug formulations and revised the maximum prices of 20 existing ones. The newly priced drugs primarily treat Type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, bacterial infections, and pain. The revised prices mainly affect vaccines for various diseases and distilled water used for injections. These new prices have been notified based on decisions taken at an NPPA meeting.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">MRP Fixed</h2>



<p>According to the notification, the maximum retail prices have been fixed for formulations including Atorvastatin and Ezetimibe tablet combinations (FDC) – commonly used to treat cholesterol; dispersible Amoxicillin and Potassium Clavulanate, used in bacterial infection treatment; and Gliclazide and Metformin Hydrochloride, used in Type 2 diabetes management. In addition, prices have been set for Vitamin D3 supplements and the antifungal drug Itraconazole capsules.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Vaccine Prices Revised</h2>



<p>The NPPA notification states that the revised maximum prices include 13 new drugs among the 20 medications. These primarily involve new prices for injectable immunoglobulins and distilled water for rabies, tetanus, measles, and BCG vaccines. The list also includes seven essential formulations such as injections of Thiamine (Vitamin B1), Lignocaine, tablets of Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), and tablets and syrups of Clarithromycin (an antibiotic).</p>

<p><strong>PV Sindhu marries Venkatta Datta Sai:</strong> Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu married her fiancé, Venkatta Datta Sai, on the morning of 22 December in Udaipur. The ceremony was attended by close family and friends. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Jodhpur MP and Union Minister, also attended the wedding and shared a picture on his social media platform, &#8216;X&#8217;, which has since gone viral.</p>

<p><strong>Who is Venkatta Datta Sai?</strong></p>



<p>PV Sindhu&#8217;s husband, Venkatta Datta Sai, is the Executive Director of Hyderabad-based Posidex Technologies. A reserved individual, Venkatta Datta Sai has largely stayed out of the public eye, but news of his marriage to PV Sindhu has brought him into the spotlight.</p>

<p>The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) PCS preliminary examination concluded on Sunday. The exam was conducted peacefully across the state, however, the turnout was significantly low. Media reports suggest that only 42% of the registered candidates appeared for the exam. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">UPPSC PCS Prelims 2024: Registration Numbers</h2>



<p>A total of 5,76,154 candidates had registered for the preliminary examination. However, only 2,41,212 candidates appeared, representing approximately 42% of the registered candidates. The large-scale protests before the exam, with students demanding a single-day examination, are cited as a major reason for the low turnout.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">UPPSC: Other Contributing Factors</h2>



<p>Another possible reason for the low turnout is the distance of examination centres from candidates&#8217; residences. The commission allocated examination centres outside the candidates&#8217; districts. Female candidates were also assigned centres in different districts. Furthermore, a general lack of interest in the examination is also considered a contributing factor.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">UPPSC PCS Prelims Exam: Peaceful Conclusion</h2>



<p>The examination was conducted peacefully across the state. The commission implemented stringent security measures to prevent any malpractice. However, media reports indicate that a young man was caught cheating at an examination centre in Eta.</p>

<p>The long-standing dispute regarding the Champions Trophy 2025 has finally been resolved. Cricket fans worldwide, including those in India and Pakistan, can look forward to witnessing a clash between these arch-rivals once again. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), hosts of the Champions Trophy 2025, has informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that they have finalised Dubai, UAE, as a neutral venue for the tournament.</p>



<p>Notably, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had explicitly stated that the Indian team would not travel to Pakistan for the tournament. Following this, the PCB agreed to host the eight-team tournament under a hybrid model.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">PCB and ECB Reach Agreement</h2>



<p>PCB chairman Mohsin Khan met with Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, head of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), on 21 December in Pakistan regarding the scheduling of the ICC Champions Trophy, and they reached an agreement. PCB spokesperson Amir Mir stated, &#8220;We have informed the ICC that the venue has been decided following a meeting between PCB chief Mohsin Khan and the chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board, Sheikh Mubarak Al Nahyan, in Pakistan on Sunday.&#8221;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">India&#8217;s Matches to be Played in Dubai</h2>



<p>Dubai will now host Team India&#8217;s three group-stage matches against Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand. The PCB only accepted this deal after the ICC granted Pakistan the hosting rights for the Women&#8217;s T20 World Cup 2028 and assured them that all India vs Pakistan matches would be played at neutral venues for the next four years.</p>

<p>Team India&#8217;s first match in the Champions Trophy 2025 will be played on 20 February against Bangladesh. Their second match will be against arch-rivals Pakistan on 23 February. India&#8217;s third match will be against New Zealand on 2 March. If India enters the knockout stages, their semi-final or final matches will also be played in Dubai.</p>
