In a post, the Indian Air Force confirmed that two aircraft were used to transport 242 NDRF personnel and 30 tons of relief material to the state, and several helicopters are also on standby. The post read, “Last evening, @IAF_MCC responded swiftly to the call for augmenting NDRF efforts. Two IL-76 aircraft took off from Halwara and Bhatinda in the morning, carrying 242 NDRF personnel and 30 tons of relief material to Vijayawada and Shamshabad. Helicopters are also on standby to provide further assistance.”
Earlier today, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu inspected the flood situation in various areas of Vijayawada.
Providing Food and Medical Assistance
CM Naidu said, “We are streamlining the system and 110 boats are currently providing food and medical assistance. I am regularly monitoring the flood situation and officials are actively working on the ground. Last night, I visited several flood-affected areas. The public should not panic. We are setting up command and control centers in flood-affected areas.”
Governor Expresses Concern
Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer has also expressed concern over the disruption of normal life due to heavy rainfall and flooding in Vijayawada and surrounding areas. He warned people to stay safe and not venture out unless necessary, and to cooperate with government officials. He said, “Those who are stranded in flooded areas should contact government officials so that NDRF teams can be deployed to rescue them and take them to safe locations.” The Governor also appealed to the Red Cross, Scouts and Guides, and other non-governmental organizations to coordinate with government officials and actively participate in rescue and relief operations, and to distribute food, medicines, and other essential items to affected people.
