Supreme Court asks LG to file a personal affidavit
VK Saxena is also the chairman of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). The court had asked him to file a personal affidavit stating the steps being taken to fix responsibility for the alleged illegal felling of over 600 trees.
What did LG tell SC in his affidavit?
Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor filed an affidavit on Tuesday night in response to the court’s order dated October 16. This case is related to a contempt petition filed by Bindu Kapoor, in which it was alleged that around 1100 trees were being cut to build a road in the southern Ridge area of Delhi. The petition alleges that the road is being built for the benefit of the CAPFIMS hospital, Delhi Police, CBI, NIA, and CISF, as well as other residential projects, including the SAARC University and multi-specialty hospitals. Concerns have been raised about the environmental impact of this project, especially with regard to the felling of trees. The court had taken the matter seriously and sought a response from the government, following which the Lieutenant Governor filed his affidavit.
