<p>गंगासागर सिर्फ एक तीर्थस्थल नहीं है, यह भावना, संस्कृति, आस्था और विश्वास का संगम है। कुछ ऐसा ही नजारा मकर संक्रांति के पावन पर्व पर सागरद्वीप में मंगलवार को दिखा। मोक्षधाम के तौर पर प्रसिद्ध गंगासागर में पुण्य स्नान के लिए लाखों श्रद्धालु मोक्ष की कामना लेकर पहुंचे और गंगा सागर के संगम में डुबकी लगाई। सागर तट पर भक्ति का ज्वार उमड़ पड़ा। मेला परिसर में सैकड़ों शिविर दिखे लेकिन, इसका एक पक्ष यह कि गंगासागर मेले में आए कई यात्री सर्द रात में खुले आकाश के नीचे बिताने को मजबूर दिखे।</p>

<p>कोटा. मकर संक्रांति मंगलवार को हर्षोल्लास से मनाई गई। दानपुण्य, भंडारे व अन्य आयोजन हुए। गुड़-तिल की मिठास भी घुली। युवाओं ने पतंग उड़ाने का आनंद लिया। संगीतमय धुन के साथ ये काटा, वो काटा का शोर गूंजता रहा, पतंगें आसमान में लहराती रही। सुबह से ही शहर में मकर संक्रांति का उल्लास छाया। बच्चे, युवा पतंग व डोर लिए पूरी तैयारी के साथ छत-मैदानों पर जमा हुए और पतंग उड़ाना शुरू कर दिया। लाउड स्पीकरों पर हिन्दी-राजस्थानी गीत गूंजते रहे, अंगुलियों के इशारे पर आसमान में पतंगें उड़ान भरती रही। किसी ने गिरगिड़ी पकड़ी तो कोई पतंग को ढील देता नजर आया। उत्साह व उमंग के बीच युवा पतंगों के पेंच लड़ाते नजर आए तो आसमां में जमकर घमासान हुआ। पतंगों के कटने के साथ ही अलग है&#8230;जैसे शोर में संक्रांति का उल्लास झलक रहा था।</p>

<p>The Congress party&#8217;s new headquarters, Indira Bhawan, has been completed at 9A, Kotla Marg, Delhi. The state-of-the-art building was inaugurated on Wednesday by senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and other senior leaders were also present. The building was constructed at a cost of approximately ₹242 crore. Indira Bhawan is designed to meet the evolving needs of the party and its leaders, featuring modern amenities to support administrative, organisational, and strategic activities. This new headquarters marks a significant step towards organisational restructuring and modern work practices for the Congress. The building is named after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.</p>

<p><strong>Bomb Threat Delhi Schools:</strong> A political storm has erupted in Delhi after a class 12 student was apprehended for spreading bomb threats to 400 schools. The BJP has demanded an explanation, linking the student&#8217;s family to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). AAP MP Sanjay Singh stated that baseless accusations were being deliberately levelled just 15 days before the elections.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Political Storm Erupts</h2>



<p>Delhi Police revealed that the arrested child&#8217;s family was in contact with an NGO that opposed the execution of Afzal Guru. The family supports a political party. Police are investigating who is behind the child and their motive. This has given the BJP an opportunity to corner the AAP. BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said that if the AAP doesn&#8217;t respond to the allegations, suspicion will deepen.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Atishi&#8217;s Affidavit Leaves Husband&#8217;s Column Blank</h2>



<p>Delhi Chief Minister Atishi filed her nomination from the Kalkaji Assembly constituency on Tuesday. According to the affidavit submitted with the nomination, Atishi neither owns a car nor a house. She possesses approximately ₹77 lakh, including 10 grams of gold. In the affidavit, Atishi wrote &#8216;Not Applicable&#8217; in the column for her husband&#8217;s assets. The previous election&#8217;s affidavit listed assets worth ₹81 lakh in her husband&#8217;s name.</p>

<p>Congress released its third list of 16 candidates on Tuesday night, fielding former Union Minister Krishna Tirath from Patel Nagar. The candidate previously announced for the Gokalpur seat, Pramod Kumar Jayant, has been replaced by Ishwar Bagri. Three defectors from the Aam Aadmi Party have been nominated as candidates. The party has declared candidates for 63 out of 70 seats.</p>

<p>The 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, commenced on Monday, 13 January, attracting millions of devotees. While the event witnessed a massive turnout, the intense cold also took its toll. Following the Shahi Snan (royal bath), three people died due to the extreme cold and shivering. Additionally, approximately 3,000 people fell ill due to the cold, many requiring hospitalisation.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lauren Powell Jobs Falls Ill</h2>



<p>Lauren Powell Jobs, wife of the renowned Apple founder Steve Jobs, also attended the Maha Kumbh. Mahamandaleshwar Kailashanand Giri reported that she fell ill and is resting at his camp due to an allergic reaction. This is Ms. Powell Jobs&#8217;s first experience with such a large crowd. She is expected to remain at the Akhara&#8217;s camp until 15 January.</p>



<p>Over 3,000 patients sought treatment at the Central Hospital and other hospitals in the mela area. Dr. Manoj Kumar Kaushik, Chief Medical Superintendent of the Central Hospital, stated that a total of 3104 patients visited the Outpatient Department (OPD) on Monday. Of these, 262 patients were admitted, while 37 patients in critical condition were referred to other hospitals.</p>



<p>Furthermore, 650 patients were examined at the hospital, and patients were also transferred from the Jhunsi and Arail hospitals in the mela area to the SRN Hospital. 24 patients were referred to the SRN Hospital, of whom 12 were admitted, while the others were discharged after treatment.</p>

<p>Jagadguru Swami Rambhadracharya in Prayagraj stated, “I am extremely happy because I was the first among all the Acharyas to take a holy dip. I am impressed by the arrangements made by the state government. They have successfully managed such a large crowd here.” Storyteller Jaya Kishori also arrived in Prayagraj. The UGC NET Exam for 15th January to be Held on This Day, NTA Issues Notice


<p><strong>UGC NET December 2024:</strong> The National Testing Agency (NTA) has postponed the UGC NET December 2024 examination, originally scheduled for 15 January 2025. A new date has now been announced. The exam, previously scheduled for 15 January, will now be held on 21 and 27 January 2025.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Reasons for the Examination Postponement (UGC NET)</h2>



<p>The NTA postponed the UGC NET exam scheduled for the 15th due to festivals like Pongal, Makar Sankranti, and Basant Panchami. There were demands to reschedule the examination. The Higher Education Minister of Tamil Nadu had appealed to the Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, to postpone the exam. Consequently, the examination scheduled for 15 January was postponed.</p>

<p>At least 100 illegal miners have perished in the abandoned Buffelsfontein gold mine in the North West province of South Africa, succumbing to starvation and dehydration. Eighteen bodies have been recovered so far, while 26 miners have been rescued alive. These miners had been trapped for months. Over 500 miners are still believed to be inside the mine. </p>



<p>A cellphone recovered from one of the rescued miners contained two videos showing dozens of bodies wrapped in plastic bags inside a dark tunnel. The rescue team is prioritising the rescue of the remaining survivors. </p>



<p>The mine is reportedly approximately three kilometres deep. Police spokesperson Brigadier Sebata Mokgabone stated that they are currently confirming the number of fatalities and are hopeful of rescuing the remaining miners. Buffelsfontein is one of South Africa&#8217;s deepest mines.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Police Cut Off Miners&#8217; Food Supply</h2>



<p>It has been reported that the police attempted to seal off the mine to force the miners out, removing their ropes and cutting off their food supply lines in an effort to end the illegal mining operation.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Illegal Mining Common in South Africa</h2>



<p>South Africa, known for its vast gold reserves, has a significant number of gold mines. Illegal mining is prevalent in many areas. Groups of miners often illegally enter abandoned mines, left behind by companies due to unprofitability, to search for remaining gold. They live underground for months, bringing food, water, generators, and other equipment. Local communities near the mine report that many of their relatives were trapped in the mine for approximately six months, since July. Companies abandon mines that are no longer profitable, leading to informal miners illegally accessing and exploiting any remaining gold reserves.</p>



<p>These illegal operations are often run by syndicates who employ these miners and contractors. While they bring their own supplies, they also rely on others on the surface for resupply.</p>



<p>Police last year cut the miners&#8217; ropes and pulley systems used for accessing the mine in an attempt to force them out. A cabinet minister stated that the aim was to &#8220;eradicate illegal miners&#8221; and that the government would not provide assistance as they are criminals.</p>

<p>The momentum of South Indian star Ram Charan and Bollywood actress Kiara Advani&#8217;s political action drama, Game Changer, is fading at the box office. Despite the holiday, the film earned a meagre amount on its fifth day.</p>



<p>The box office collection for its fifth day is now out. The good news is that it has earned over ₹100 crore in the Indian market. Worldwide, it has earned ₹140 crore. Directed by S. Shankar, the film <em>Game Changer</em> was released on 10 January.</p>

Rainfall in Jaipur; IMD Issues Alert


<p>A bone-chilling cold wave has been sweeping through Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, since morning. The cold intensified further with the ongoing cold wave. Around 1 pm on Wednesday, rain began, starting lightly before intensifying into a downpour, adding to the already intense cold. Many districts woke up shrouded in fog this morning, a stark contrast to the clear, sunny weather of the previous day.</p>



<p>The Meteorological Department has issued an alert regarding a new western disturbance expected to become active tonight. Strong, cold northerly winds will further exacerbate the cold. The Met Department issued an alert for light rain and dense fog in Jaipur and several other districts of Rajasthan today.</p>



<p>According to the Meteorological Department, temperature fluctuations are expected over the next 24 hours. Additionally, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is likely in parts of the state today.</p>



<p>From 16 January, the weather is expected to be dry again, with dense fog in some areas. The department has issued a yellow alert for rain in the following districts: Ajmer, Alwar, Baran, Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Bundi, Chittorgarh, Dausa, Dholpur, Jaipur, Jhalawar, Jhunjhunu, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Kota, Sikar, and Tonk.</p>

<p><strong>UP School Closed:</strong> The weather in Uttar Pradesh has deteriorated again. After rain and two days of sunshine, dense fog enveloped many areas on Wednesday, making visibility difficult. Along with this, cold winds have also increased the chill and cold.</p>



<p>Schools were scheduled to reopen on 15 January after the winter break ended on 14 January, but considering the severity of the cold, it has been extended by two more days to 16 January.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Order to keep schools closed</h2>



<p>The Meteorological Department has issued a warning about a drop in temperature and the impact of a cold wave. In the districts of Ghazipur, Ballia, and Chandauli, orders have been issued to keep schools from classes 1 to 8 closed until 16 January due to the cold wave. In Badaun, DM Nidhi Srivastava has also instructed to keep schools up to class 8 closed on 15 and 16 January. Shahjahanpur District Magistrate Dharmendra Pratap Singh has instructed to keep schools up to class 8 closed until 16 January. Meanwhile, it has been suggested that schools for classes 9 to 12 should be opened from 10 am to 3 pm or classes should be conducted online.</p>

<p><strong>Tony Book Passes Away:</strong> Manchester City announced the passing of their former captain and manager, Tony Book, at the age of 90. A legend, Tony played a total of 315 matches for Manchester City between 1966 and 1974. His death has sent shockwaves through the sporting world, with many prominent figures expressing condolences. <p>A high point of his time in charge came in 1976 when Tony guided City to League Cup victory at Wembley. He also led City to runners-up in Division One in the 1976/77 campaign. His extensive influence on the club was further highlighted in the following decade when working as a youth coach, he helped City win the FA Youth Cup for the first time in 1986.</p>



<p>He was later appointed Honorary President and also served as the lifelong president of the Official Supporters Club, remaining a hugely popular member of the matchday legends at Etihad home games.</p>
