<p>An army soldier who was addicted to online gaming and became bankrupt stole a rifle and cartridges from Assam and fled. According to Khateema&#8217;s Kotwal MS Dasuni, Suraj Chandra Joshi, a resident of Banlekh Nandkuli Champawat, who was recruited in 2020, was part of a team of 11 jawans who were going to Dimapur, Assam, to deliver rations. During this time, he fled with the rifle and cartridges from the vehicle. A case was registered against him under the Arms Act. On Wednesday, the army arrested him from a hotel in Khateema using his mobile location.</p>

<p>Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath discussed law and order and development schemes with officials and public representatives in Balrampur. He instructed officials to find a permanent solution to the flood problem in the Rapti River and to construct roads and bridges. Streetlights should be installed properly. He instructed to increase revenue collection, promote industrial activities, and create employment opportunities. He said that a PLAEDGE(promoting leadership and enterprise for development and growth engine) park should be established in the district, and new industrial areas should be developed.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Strict Action Against Inciting Religious Sentiments</h2>



<p>During the review of law and order, CM Yogi instructed to ensure that Durga Puja, Ramlila, and other festivals are celebrated peacefully. He instructed them to take special care of women&#8217;s safety.</p>

<p>The Nobel Chemistry Prize 2024 has been awarded to American scientists David Baker and John Jumper, and British scientist Demis Hassabis. They have been awarded the prize for their groundbreaking work on deciphering protein structures and creating new proteins. American Professor Baker has developed tools to create new proteins, while Google DeepMind scientists Hassabis and Jumper have used Artificial Intelligence (AI) to predict protein structures.</p>

<p>Note that 62-year-old Baker is a professor at the University of Washington in Seattle. Meanwhile, 48-year-old Hassabis is the CEO of Google DeepMind, a Google AI research subsidiary, where 39-year-old Jumper also works as a senior research scientist. The Nobel Prize-awarding institution has stated that Hassabis and Jumper have used Artificial Intelligence to predict the structures of almost all known proteins, while Baker has mastered the creation of new proteins.</p>

<p>Our earth has entered a decisive and unpredictable new phase of climate change. Irreversible changes are taking place in our atmosphere, putting a large part of life on Earth at risk. Out of 35 indicators related to life on our planet, 25 have reached their extreme limits. This means that a global climate emergency is knocking on the door of our planet. A recent research paper published in Oxford&#8217;s Bioscience magazine has made this claim.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Climate Change and Paris Agreement </h2>



<p>The paper states that despite warnings, we are still moving in the wrong direction. Fossil fuel emissions are at an all-time high. In July 2024, the three hottest days on record were recorded on Earth. The policies we are following will take us towards a 2.7-degree Celsius increase in temperature by 2100, which is much higher than the 1.5-degree Celsius limit set by the Paris Agreement. This will be a catastrophic situation that humanity has never faced before.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Temperature to increase by 2.7 degrees</h2>



<p>According to the research paper, the temperature will increase by 2.7 degrees Celsius by 2100, which is much higher than the 1.5-degree Celsius limit set by the Paris Agreement.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Extreme climate conditions </h2>



<p>1. The global temperature is at an all-time high, and 2024 is on track to become the hottest year on record.</p>



<p>2. The heat content and acidity of the oceans are at unprecedented levels, leading to large-scale deaths of marine animals, especially during the heatwaves of 2021 and 2023.</p>



<p>3. The concentration of nitrous oxide, a long-lived greenhouse gas, increased by 40% in the atmosphere between 1980 and 2020.</p>



<p>4. In 2023, there was a 1.5% increase in the use of coal and oil (fossil fuels). Fossil fuel consumption is still 14 times higher than solar and wind energy.</p>



<p>5. The human and livestock population is increasing at an alarming rate – approximately 200,000 and 170,000 per day, respectively.</p>



<p>6. Global tree cover is also decreasing rapidly. In 2022, 28.3 million hectares of forest area were lost, which increased to 22.8 million hectares in 2023. This is the third-highest rate of forest loss on record. Alone, forest fires have caused a record loss of 11.9 million hectares of forest cover.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Per capita greenhouse gas emissions </h2>



<p>According to the study, greenhouse gas emissions are at a record high, with concentrations of carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide in the atmosphere reaching critical levels. The top three countries emitting greenhouse gases are China, the United States, and India, while the highest per capita emissions are seen in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Australia.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Second-hottest September</h2>



<p>In September 2024, the average temperature on earth&#8217;s surface reached 16.17 degrees Celsius, making it the second-hottest September on record. Notably, the temperature was 1.54 degrees Celsius higher than the pre-industrial era (1850-1900). The European Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) has confirmed this temperature increase.</p>



<p>Data shows that none of the first eight months of the year failed to set a new temperature record. Additionally, this is the 14th time in the last 15 months that the global temperature has exceeded 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.</p>

<p>The wait of lakhs of unemployed candidates in Rajasthan is about to end. The Rajasthan Teacher Eligibility Test 2025 (REET Exam) will be held in the second week of January. A meeting was held at the Education Complex on Thursday under the chairmanship of Krishna Kunal, Secretary, of the Education Department, to discuss the preparations for the REET exam. <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Five options will be available in the exam</h2>



<p>Krishna Kunal said that this time, students will be given five options in the exam. This system has been included in the exam, in which one of the five options will have to be filled. If not, there will be a provision for negative marking. Krishna Kunal said that we are also considering putting the candidate&#8217;s roll number and photo on the OMR sheet.</p>

<p>According to a report shared by the Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) under the Joint Admission Board (JAB), Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) has emerged as the most popular branch in IIT Bombay, with 25,481 students opting for it. Last year, the number of students who opted for Computer Science was 21,893.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Electrical Engineering second most popular choice </h2>



<p>This year, after Computer Science, IIT Bombay students have chosen Electrical Engineering as their second preference. According to the applications received, the number of students who opted for Electrical Engineering is 21,811. There has been a significant increase of over 15% in the popularity of Electrical Engineering, followed by Mechanical Engineering, which has seen a rise of nearly 19% (19,469) in its popularity.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Civil Engineering is the least preferred branch </h2>



<p>On the other hand, students have shown a greater preference for Chemical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering over Civil Engineering. Chemical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering have been chosen by students as their fourth and fifth preferences, respectively. While 15,430 students opted for Chemical Engineering, 16,174 students chose Aerospace Engineering. Civil Engineering has emerged as the sixth most popular course, with 15,061 students opting for it, which is an increase of 18.40% over last year&#8217;s 12,720.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Other branches that have seen an increase in popularity</h2>



<p>Textile Engineering, Materials Science, Energy Engineering, and Environmental Science and Engineering have also seen a significant increase in their popularity, with a growth of 23.53%, 19.43%, and 27.43%, respectively. Instrumentation Engineering has also seen an increase in popularity, with over 9,700 students showing interest. The largest increase (38%) has been seen in the number of students opting for Chemistry, which has risen from 4,559 last year to 6,322 this year.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">IIT Bombay: first choice </h2>



<p>IIT Bombay is one of the top engineering colleges in India. In the recently released NIRF ranking, IIT Bombay secured the third position in the engineering category. In the QS World University Ranking 2025, IIT Bombay ranked 118th and 635th in the global university rankings. IIT Bombay is known for its engineering programs, faculty members, resources, research quality, and opportunities. The institution is usually the first choice for engineering students. This year, IIT Bombay has received nearly 1.9 lakh applications for various engineering branches.</p>
