<p>The Supreme Court has stayed defamation proceedings against Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi in a Jharkhand court over remarks made against Union Minister Amit Shah. The case dates back to 2018, when Mr Gandhi allegedly made derogatory remarks against Mr Shah, then BJP chief.</p>



<p>A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta also issued notices to the Jharkhand government and complainant BJP leader Navin Jha, asking them to respond within four weeks.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The case will be heard within six weeks.</h2>



<p>Senior advocate Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Gandhi, citing previous judgments, argued that only an aggrieved person can file a criminal defamation complaint. He contended that the complaint cannot be filed by a proxy third party.</p>

<p><strong>Saif Ali Khan Attack:</strong> Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad (30), the accused in the attack on actor Saif Ali Khan, was arrested from Thane in the early hours of Sunday. He is a Bangladeshi national who, after illegally entering India, changed his name to Vijay Das. He was attempting to flee to Bangladesh after the incident. According to the police, Shariful entered Saif Ali Khan&#8217;s house with the intention of theft, but he did not know who owned the house. The court has remanded him to five days of police custody.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Police Listed These 15 Points in the Remand Application</h2>



<p>The police included 15 points in the remand application for the accused. The police want to know who instigated the accused to commit this serious crime, where he obtained the weapon, whether the attack on the actor was an international conspiracy, who else was involved in the incident, and the accused&#8217;s intention for entering the actor&#8217;s house, etc.</p>



<p>1. Custodial interrogation is necessary to ascertain if anyone instigated the accused to commit the crime.<br>2. It is necessary to obtain information from the accused about who gave him the address of the actor&#8217;s house and to arrest those involved.<br>3. The clothes worn by the accused, which the police say he later hid, need to be recovered.<br>4. The accused was living under the alias &#8220;Vijay Das&#8221;; an investigation is needed to understand why he chose this name.<br>5. Investigators will have to recover any remaining parts or pieces of the weapon used in the crime, which the accused may have hidden.<br>6. Investigators need to locate and recover the weapon used in the crime from the place where the accused obtained it.<br>7. The accused illegally entered India from Bangladesh without a passport or visa and has been residing illegally in India. Custodial interrogation is required to ascertain his route from Bangladesh to India and how he entered the country.<br>8. Investigators want to find out if anyone assisted the accused in illegally entering India from Bangladesh and in his illegal stay.<br>9. Investigators also need to ascertain if anyone provided shelter to the accused during his illegal stay in India.<br>10. What was the accused&#8217;s &#8220;real motive&#8221; behind committing the crime; was it theft as the preliminary investigation suggests?<br>13. Did the accused have any prior criminal record in India, Bangladesh, or any other country?<br>14. Why did the accused flee from Bangladesh and change his identity to hide from the authorities in India?<br>15. Was the accused in contact with people who had illegally entered India from Bangladesh, Pakistan, or other countries?</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Accused Arrived in Mumbai 5-6 Months Ago</h2>



<p>A birth certificate obtained by the Mumbai Police confirmed Shariful&#8217;s Bangladeshi nationality. DCP Dikshit Gedam stated in a press conference that the accused arrived in Mumbai 5-6 months ago. He worked for a housekeeping agency. He confessed to entering the actor&#8217;s house and committing the crime. The police have also invoked sections of the Passport Act against him as he could not provide any proof of being an Indian citizen. The accused has no prior criminal record. During interrogation, he repeatedly changed his name. Sometimes he gave his name as Bijoy Das, sometimes Vijay Das, and sometimes Mohammad Elias, Mohammad Sajjad, and Mohammad Alian. The accused previously worked at a hotel in Hiranandani Estate, Thane, where he received a Best Employee award. He later quit his job.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">CCTV Footage and Bike Led to His Location</h2>



<p>The Mumbai Police deployed 35 teams to apprehend the accused. The police also examined CCTV footage from 10-15 days before the incident. During scanning, footage from the DN Nagar area of Andheri showed someone being dropped off by a biker. Close examination revealed that the person who got off the bike was the attacker. Details of the bike number were obtained, leading the police to a series of clues. Footage from a mobile shop showed the accused buying a mobile cover. Through CCTV, his residence in the Worli Koliwada area was traced. He was living in a room with five other people. A labour contractor also provided information about the attacker to the police. The police found him in a labour camp in Thane.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">He Fled the Room and Hid in the Bushes</h2>



<p>Based on interrogation and the accused&#8217;s mobile records, the police learned that he had gone to a construction site labour camp in Thane. When the police surrounded the camp in the early hours of Sunday, he was alerted. He escaped from the room and hid in dense thorny bushes. The police apprehended him after retrieving him from the bushes.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Recovery of the Third Piece of the Knife Remains</h2>



<p>During the accused&#8217;s appearance in Bandra court, the police stated that the third piece of the knife used to attack Saif Ali Khan had not yet been found. One piece was found at the scene, while another was removed from Saif&#8217;s spine during surgery. The location where the accused discarded the third piece is yet to be ascertained. According to the police, the accused used the building&#8217;s fire escape stairs to enter Saif Ali Khan&#8217;s residence.</p>

This cryptocurrency is based on the Polygon blockchain network and aims to attract Jio users as a new type of reward token. Although the company has not yet released official information about the token&#8217;s functionality, its launch has sparked considerable discussion in the digital world.</p>

<p><strong>–</strong> A separate announcement will be made for certificate distribution.</p>



<p><strong>–</strong> Candidates are advised that if any disqualification or use of unfair means is found at any stage of the FMGE process, the candidature will be cancelled, whether the result has been declared or the certificate issued.</p>

<p><strong>Maha kumbh 2025:</strong> The ongoing Maha kumbh in Prayagraj is witnessing saints and ascetics in various forms. Devotees, after taking a dip in the Sangam, are visiting the saints&#8217; camps to seek their blessings and witness their unique practices. A large number of devotees are coming to see the saints practising Hatha Yoga. Some perform it for world peace, while others for physical and mental balance. The Patrika team learned about the Hatha Yoga practices of some of these saints and ascetics:</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Hands Raised for 16 Years</h2>



<p>In the Juna Akhara, Karnapuri Maharaj has kept his hands raised for 16 years. When asked about the reason, Karnapuri Maharaj said he is doing this for world peace. He wants to establish Ram Rajya in the world and for everyone to live with love and brotherhood. He will end his Hatha Yoga practice once this is achieved.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Six Years on a Swing</h2>



<p>Rupeshpuri Maharaj has been living on a swing for six years. He rests on the swing itself. He explained that when he goes for the royal bath (Shahi Snan), he performs it while standing. He said he has been practising Hatha Yoga for 12 years and can extend it to 24 years or even for life.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Wearing 21 kg of Rudraksha</h2>



<p>Vashistha Giri Maharaj, seen wearing 21 kg of Rudraksha, is also present at the Mahakumbh. Vashistha Giri, who is engrossed in the worship of Lord Shiva, said that he started wearing Rudraksha in 2010 after receiving Guru Diksha. Initially, their weight was less, but it gradually increased.</p>

<p>The Rajasthan section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is expected to be completed this year. 373 km of this expressway passes through Rajasthan, with approximately 35 km of work remaining. Authorities claim this remaining work will be finished by September. Upon completion, the travel time between Kota and Delhi will be reduced to just four hours.</p>



<p>According to NHAI officials, around 27 km of work between Sawai Madhopur-Dausa-Bundi is expected to be completed before April. Meanwhile, the construction of a tunnel near Kota is also expected to be completed by September. While the project was initially slated for completion in 2024, delays have been caused by difficulties encountered during tunnel construction and other issues.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Starting with eight lanes, expandable to twelve</h2>



<p>Currently, the expressway has eight lanes. However, it is designed to be expandable to twelve lanes in the future to accommodate increasing traffic. The NHAI has acquired land in a manner that will eliminate the need for further land acquisition if lane expansion becomes necessary. Currently, the maximum speed limit for light vehicles is 120 kmph, which may be increased to 140 kmph in the future.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Traffic first started on the Sohna-Dausa section</h2>



<p>Traffic on the expressway first commenced on the section between Sohna and Bhandarej near Dausa. This section was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi. Since then, work has been progressing rapidly.</p>



<p>The NHAI aims to complete the project by the end of this year or in the first quarter of next year, and subsequently open it to traffic. The Delhi-Mumbai distance via this expressway will be approximately 1386 km, with a claimed travel time of twelve hours.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Jaipur-Bandikui work also expected to be completed by March</h2>



<p>A four-lane expressway is also under construction to connect this expressway to Jaipur via Bandikui. This work is expected to be completed by March.</p>


<p>Delhi-Mumbai Expressway: A 373 km stretch of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway passes through Rajasthan. However, some work remains to be completed, which is expected to be finished soon.</p>

<p><strong>Sanchar Saathi:</strong> The Department of Telecommunications launched the &#8216;Sanchar Saathi&#8217; mobile app on Friday to curb fraudulent and deceptive calls. A website version was launched earlier. The mobile app will make it easier for people to directly report any suspicious information about fraudulent activity from their mobile phone call logs and easily identify such numbers.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Identifying Fraudulent Numbers</h2>



<p>Launching the Sanchar Saathi mobile app, Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that the app will help people identify mobile numbers issued in their name. Scindia also launched two other initiatives of the Department of Telecommunications: the National Broadband Mission 2.0 (NBM) and &#8216;intra-circle roaming&#8217; on 4G mobile sites funded by the &#8216;Digital Bharat Nidhi&#8217;.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Number of Broadband Subscribers in India Increases to 94 Crore</h2>



<p>Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that the number of broadband subscribers in the country has increased to 94 crore. Over 53 crore people are also connected to electronic banking. Considering this vast network, NBM-2 has been launched. He said that by 2030, optical fibre services will be extended to 2.70 villages to expand facilities in rural areas. Similarly, people will also benefit from the intra-circle roaming facility.</p>
