<p>Manmohan Singh Death: Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, the architect of India&#8217;s economic liberalisation, passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS Delhi) on Thursday at the age of 92. AIIMS, in an official statement, said that Dr Singh was admitted to the medical emergency at 8.06 PM after his health deteriorated. Prior to this, he was undergoing treatment for age-related ailments at home and had suddenly collapsed. He breathed his last at 9.51 PM on Thursday.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Seven Days of National Mourning Declared</h2>



<p>The central government has declared seven days of national mourning following Dr Singh&#8217;s death and cancelled all scheduled events on Friday. A cabinet meeting has been called for 11 AM. Dr Singh&#8217;s last rites will be performed with full state honours. Several dignitaries, including President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, have expressed their condolences.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Born in Gah, West Punjab</h2>



<p>Manmohan Singh was born on 26 September 1932, in Gah, West Punjab, now part of Pakistan. Following the partition of India in 1947, his family moved to India. His father&#8217;s name was Gurmukh Singh and his mother&#8217;s name was Amrit Kaur. He married Gursharan Kaur in 1958. He is survived by three daughters: Upinder Singh, Daman Singh, and Amrit Singh.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">His last Public Appearance was in January</h2>



<p>Manmohan Singh had remained away from politics in recent years due to health reasons. His health had been frail since the beginning of 2024. His last public appearance was in January 2024 at the launch of his daughter&#8217;s book.</p>

<p>The nation mourns the passing of one of its most distinguished leaders, Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji. Rising from humble origins, he became a respected economist. He served in various government positions, including as Finance Minister, leaving a strong imprint on our economic policy for years. His interventions in Parliament were always insightful. As our Prime Minister, he made extensive efforts to improve people&#8217;s lives. Dr. Singh and I used to interact regularly when he was the Prime Minister and I was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Manmohan Singh: From Government Job to Prime Minister – His Inspiring Journey


<p><strong>Manmohan Singh Passes Away:</strong> Dr Manmohan Singh, who served as India&#8217;s 14th Prime Minister, is remembered as the architect of India&#8217;s economic reforms. He was sworn in as Prime Minister on 22 May 2004 and completed two terms, concluding on 26 May 2014. Leading the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government under the Congress party, he served a total of 3,656 days as Prime Minister, making him the third-longest-serving Prime Minister in India&#8217;s history, after Jawaharlal Nehru (6,130 days) and Indira Gandhi (5,829 days).</p>



<p>Born on 26 September 1932, in the village of Gah, in the Punjab region of Pakistan, Singh completed his postgraduate studies in Economics at Panjab University, Chandigarh, and subsequently obtained a doctorate from Oxford University.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">From Civil Service to Politics</h2>



<p>Singh had a long and distinguished career in government service. He began his journey in 1971 during Indira Gandhi&#8217;s tenure as an economic advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Trade. In 1972, he became the Chief Economic Advisor to the Ministry of Finance, a position he held until 1976.</p>



<p>In 1991, amidst India&#8217;s economic crisis, he was appointed as the Finance Minister. Singh devalued the rupee, reduced taxes, privatised state-owned industries, and encouraged foreign investment, leading to positive changes in the country&#8217;s economy. A member of the Indian National Congress, he joined the Rajya Sabha in 1991. He served as Finance Minister until 1996 but lost the 1999 Lok Sabha elections.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">2004 Victory, Manmohan Singh Becomes Prime Minister</h2>



<p>The Congress party defeated the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2004 parliamentary elections. In 2014, Singh announced he would not seek a third term as Prime Minister, and he left office on 26 May, the same day Narendra Modi was sworn in as Prime Minister.</p>

<p><strong>Weather Alert:</strong> Cold weather has begun to affect northern India, including the national capital, Delhi. Meanwhile, a new western disturbance has changed the weather pattern. <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Temperature Drops by One to Three Degrees</h2>



<p>During the past 24 hours, a one to three-degree increase in minimum temperature has been recorded in parts of Uttar Pradesh and east and central India, and a one to three-degree Celsius decrease in some parts of north-west India. According to the Meteorological Department, the continuous snowfall in the mountains and the western disturbance will cause people in the plains to experience a chilling cold.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Rain in Several Areas of Delhi, Cold Intensifies</h2>



<p>Light rain has been falling in Delhi-NCR since Friday morning. This has increased the cold. Heavy rain is falling in some areas, while light rain is falling in others. The temperature has dropped due to the overnight rain. According to the Meteorological Department, dense clouds will prevail throughout Friday. Light to moderate rain is possible. There is a possibility of rain with thunder and lightning. The maximum temperature in the capital may remain around 20 degrees and the minimum around 11 degrees. The IMD has issued an alert for rain and fog for the next two to three days.</p>

<p>Following an encounter with Khalistani terrorists in Pilibhit, Khalistani terrorist Pannu has issued a threat to the Maha Kumbh Mela. This threat has put intelligence agencies on high alert. Over 700 plainclothes police officers will be deployed as part of the intelligence network for the Maha Kumbh Mela. This network will closely monitor all attendees and gather intelligence on suspicious individuals.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Maha Kumbh Police Prepare Security Plan</h2>



<p>ATS, LIU, Intelligence Bureau, and local police, among other wings, will be deployed for the Maha Kumbh Mela. Following the recent threat from terrorist Pannu, ADG Law and Order Amitabh Yash reviewed the security arrangements in the Mela area. Sources indicate that the police department has devised a plan to strengthen the intelligence network throughout the Mela area.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Intelligence Network to Monitor Every Individual</h2>



<p>The number of LIU, ATS, and other wing personnel has been increased for the Maha Kumbh. The intelligence team includes female officers. This network will monitor every individual attending the Mela. While the police department had already released the roster of officers deployed for the Maha Kumbh before the threat from Khalistani terrorist Pannu, it has now been revised to include additional personnel.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Intelligence Network Includes Over 50 Female Officers</h2>



<p>Among the hundreds of intelligence officers deployed, over 50 are women. These officers will identify suspicious individuals and report them to senior officers for immediate action. They will be deployed in such a way that their identity as police officers will not be easily discernible.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Checking with Drones, Anti-Drones, and Tethered Drones</h2>



<p>According to media reports, SSP Mela Rajesh Dwivedi stated that personnel have been put on high alert. Police will be deployed throughout the Mela area. Three-tiered checking will be implemented to prevent entry by those with malicious intent. Drones, anti-drones, and tethered drones will be deployed on different fronts.</p>

<p>Indian star batsman Virat Kohli has been fined 20% of his match fee and one demerit point for a shoulder-to-shoulder collision with Australian debutant Sam Konstas on day one of the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The ICC deemed the contact intentional, leading to the penalty. Kohli was charged under Article 2.12 of the Code of Conduct, which states: “Any form of inappropriate physical contact in cricket is prohibited. Players will be sanctioned if they deliberately or recklessly collide with, run into or bump another player or umpire.”</p>



<p>The incident occurred after the 10th over. Kohli, holding the ball, altered his course and collided with Konstas. </p>



<p>Konstas reacted negatively, exchanging words with Kohli. His opening partner Usman Khawaja and on-field umpire Michael Gough quickly intervened to defuse the situation. Australia&#8217;s former captain Ricky Ponting expressed his displeasure at the Kohli-Constas collision. The ICC&#8217;s action resulted in a Rs 300,000 loss for Kohli. This raises the question of how much Indian players earn for a Test match.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Match Fees for Indian Players</h2>



<p>The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) pays a Test player Rs 15,00,000 per match. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal will receive Rs 45,00,000 per match this year, while Virat Kohli will receive only Rs15,00,000. This is because the BCCI stipulates that a player who plays more than 75% of matches in a year receives Rs 45,00,000. The Melbourne Test was Jaiswal&#8217;s 15th Test, and India played 15 Test matches this year, giving him a 100% record. Kohli, on the other hand, played 10 out of 15 matches (less than 75%), hence the difference in match fees.</p>

In Ajmer city, heavy rain in the morning affected daily life. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for rain with thunderstorms in many districts today and the possibility of hail in some areas.</p>



<p><strong>Torrential rain in Ajmer, mercury rises</strong><br>The weather remained cold due to drizzle in the Shekhawati region and several districts late at night. Despite the rain, the night temperature rose by 4-8 degrees and was recorded above normal. In Fatehpur, Sikar, the temperature was 12.3 degrees Celsius last night. Light snowfall occurred in Jaipur, Nagaur, Bhilwara, and Sri Ganganagar districts. Heavy rain in Ajmer city in the morning caused waterlogging on the roads.</p>



<p><strong>Alert for rain and hailstorms</strong><br>The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for rain and hailstorms in some parts of Jaipur, Ajmer, Nagaur, Jhunjhunu, Churu, Sikar, Bhilwara, Alwar, Pali, Rajsamand, Sri Ganganagar, Udaipur, Dungarpur and Bikaner in the next 24 hours. According to meteorologists, light snowfall is likely in many areas of the state for the next two days. After two or three days, the clouds are expected to clear, and the temperature will drop, leading to severe cold.</p>



<p><strong>Night temperature in different areas</strong><br>Despite light rain in Jaipur city last night, the temperature rose by 3 degrees to 16 degrees Celsius. Dungarpur recorded the highest temperature at 17.8 degrees Celsius. Churu (5.4°C) and Sriganganagar (9.8°C) were the coldest in the plains. Ajmer recorded 14.3°C, Bhilwara 15.2°C, Alwar 10.2°C, Pilani 12.2°C, Sikar 14°C, Kota 14.8°C, Chittorgarh 12.5°C, Dabok 15.6°C, Sirohi 10.7°C, Karauli 13.1°C, Barmer 13.8°C, Jaisalmer 12.5°C, Jodhpur 12.5°C, Phalodi 10.2°C, Bikaner 13.4°C, Sri Ganganagar 10.4°C and Jalore 15.9°C minimum temperature.</p>


<p>Heavy rainfall brought life in Ajmer to a standstill this morning. Roads were transformed into raging rivers. The intense cold forced people to remain indoors.</p>
